Barley (Farming Simulator 15)
Barley is one of the different types of crops in Farming Simulator 15. It’s easy to grow and harvest, and it gives you free straw. It’s slightly less profitable than Wheat, but it’s a close substitute for traditional cereals like corn and rice.
Overview[]
While harvesting Barley, the harvester may be instructed to leave a Straw swath behind it, which is an important resource for improving Milk yields from cows.
Sowing Barley[]
The cultivation of the field is the first step in sowing barley, and the wider the cultivator/plow, the faster the work will go. There are three cultivators/plows available in the base game: Pottinger Vitasem 302 ADD, Horsch Pronto 9 SW, and Rapid A 600S.
Barley Growth[]
Barley grows at the same rate as most other crops, taking four growth cycles to reach harvest readiness. Barley will wither at the seventh, final stage if the option to wither crops is enabled (otherwise it will remain ripe indefinitely).
Harvesting Barley[]
This necessitates the use of a Harvester with the appropriate type of Harvesting Header, as one hectare of barley yields approximately 11,000 liters.
Straw Swath[]
When a Harvester is equipped with the appropriate Header, it can be instructed to enable “Straw Swath,” which allows Straw to be collected using a specialized machine known as a Baler, which picks up the Straw and divides it into 4,000-liter packets.
Selling Barley[]
Harvested Barley can be sold at a number of locations on each map, each of which has a grated dumping chamber embedded in the road. To unload, drive a tractor or truck towing a Tipper Trailer loaded with Barley over the chamber and press the key.
Price Comparisons[]
With an unfertilized hectare producing around 11,000 liters of Barley and a top price of around $730 per ton, growing both crops ensures that a drop in the price of one can be offset by simply growing the other.
