A brief history of wheat
Wheat has been cultivated for over 10,000 years, but it was only in the 12th century that milling wheat for flour became common. By the turn of the nineteenth century, wheat had become the UK’s most important crop grown for human consumption. These ‘landrace’ varieties were created by generations of natural selection.
